This is the perfect time of year to make pie here in Illinois. The fruit trees are full of juicy ripe fruit just waiting to be put in a delicious pie. It is Fall harvest time here. The weather is staring to cool off and it is nice to take the chill out of the house in the morning to a nice aromatic pie baking in the oven. We are getting ready for our trip to the orchard. You can save money by buying seconds. These are apples that have fallen on the ground or have some kind of defect. These are the way to go for pies. You are going to slice them up anyway so there is no need for them to be perfect.

Glad you came to see us
As you can see we have added a blog to our website. We would like to keep you informed of changes we are making and what goes on in our kitchen. First off we will be adding search to our website in the beginning of February. We hope this will make it easier to search for the pie you are looking for. We also have added sub categories to our main menu. New recipes are added daily and we would like you to help us by sending in your favorite pie recipe. We also have added some sugar free recipes for people that are looking to be healthy. We will continue to add to this category so check back often.
This months Feature is Main Dish Pie as you probably noticed on the home page. We wanted to show you and give you ideas to save on your grocery bill. You can make most main dish pies for under five dollars and in most cases will feed a family of 6. Pie crust is just pennies to make. It is also simple, if you follow our How to make the perfect Pie Crust, located on the Pie Crust Page.
It is cold here in Illinois. All the reason to bake up a yummy main dish pie for supper. On Mondays we make up several pie crusts to be used through out the week. It saves cleanup, every time we want to make a pie we just pull one out of the freezer and use it with the recipe we are making.
Send in your Valentines Pie recipes for next months feature. Instead of candy and flowers how about making your loved ones a pie? Don't forget to tell them where you got the recipe.
