2/3 c. sugar 3 tbsp. cornstarch 1/2 tsp. salt 3 c. milk
Mix first 3 ingredients in pan. Stir in milk. Cook over low heat until thickens - remove from heat and add 3 beaten egg yolks to some of the cooked mixture. Mix well and add to the rest and continue cooking 1 minute. Add 1 tablespoon butter and 1 1/2 teaspoons vanilla. Cool. Pour into crust and top with meringue.
CHOCOLATE CREAM PIE: Recipe above except use 1 1/2 cups sugar and 3 squares unsweetened chocolate or 1/2 cup cocoa.
